Sgocciola does not collect any data. There is no account to create, there is no app server the data gets sent to, and whoever wrote the app cannot see your plants. The app contains no ads, trackers, analytics or third-party libraries: there is no SDK that could collect anything behind the back of the person using it.
Plants, rooms, the history of what you have logged, notes and photos live in the app's own store, on your device. If iCloud is on for Sgocciola, the same data is synced between your devices through the private database of your Apple Account: an area only you can reach, and one the data controller has no access to. You can turn syncing off from the system settings at any time.
Camera and photo library are used only when you choose to use them: to give a plant a photo, in which case the image is resized and saved alongside the rest of the app's data, handled the same way, and never uploaded anywhere else; or, on iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence turned on, to recognise the species from a photo, in which case the analysis is done by Apple's model on your device and the photo never leaves it. Notifications are local: your device works them out and schedules them, they do not go through a third-party push service, and there is no list, anywhere, of what you have to water and when. Both permissions can be denied without losing any other feature.
The widget reads a summary the app writes to an area shared between the app and its extension, on the same device. Siri phrases and shortcuts work the same way: what you say is handled by Apple under its own policy, and the app receives only the command.
If you use syncing, the data passes through iCloud and is subject to Apple's terms. If you downloaded the app from the App Store, Apple may give the developer aggregated and anonymous statistics about downloads, crashes and ratings: they contain nothing about you or your plants, and cannot be traced back to a person. You can limit them from the system settings, under Privacy & Security.
No personal data collected, no advertising identifier, no usage analytics, no profiling, no crash reports sent to the developer, no selling or sharing of data with anyone — because there is none to share.
The processing, entirely confined to your device and your personal iCloud space, is necessary to perform the service you request (Art. 6(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679). Optional data, such as plant photos, is processed on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by removing them from the app.
Data stays on your device for as long as you use the app. Deleting the app removes the local data; the synced copy is removed from system Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage. Deletion is permanent: if you want to keep your history, export it first.
Since you have full local control of the data, exercising the rights under Arts. 15-22 GDPR is immediate: you can view and edit it directly in the app, delete it as described above, and obtain portability from Settings → “Export data”, which produces a CSV file (spreadsheet) and a JSON file (full backup) in an open, readable format. The app contains no advertising, no in-app purchases, no user-generated content and no outbound links, and collects no data. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from minors.
Any update to this policy will be published on this page, with the last-updated date changed accordingly. No retroactive change is possible on data we have never had.
