Sgocciola remembers when to water your plants, how much water to give and how to give it — and along with the water, everything else a plant asks for and nobody remembers: fertilizer, repotting, pruning, rotating the pot, cleaning the leaves, pest checks, misting, seasonal moves, drainage.
It is not a reminder that repeats every seven days. The interval starts from the species — the catalogue holds 218 of them — and then gets corrected by what actually changes: the season, winter dormancy, the material and diameter of the pot, light exposure, the soil, the heating you have on indoors.
Your data lives on your device and, if you want it to, in your own private iCloud: no account to create, no server of ours.
Why did the due date move on its own?
Because it is anchored to the last real watering, not to the calendar. If you water two days
early, the next round slides two days forward. In the same way, skipping a round does not
build up arrears: you will never find three waterings queued up.
Why is a plant still “due” and not “late”?
Because lateness only kicks in after a tolerance proportional to the interval: about one
tenth of it, with a minimum of one day. One day on a two-week cycle is not an alarm, and the
app does not pretend it is.
Why does it ask for so much less water in winter?
A dormant plant drinks far less: the interval stretches by nearly double and fertilizing is
suspended altogether. If your plant does not rest in winter — a greenhouse, artificial light,
a tropical species always in growth — you can turn dormancy off in its conditions.
Notifications are not arriving.
In this order: permission must be granted in iOS Settings → Sgocciola → Notifications; inside
the app, reminders must be on and have a time set; Focus and Scheduled Summary can delay
delivery.
Plants do not sync between iPhone and iPad.
You need the same Apple Account on both devices and iCloud on for Sgocciola. The syncing is
the system's own: it is not instant, and a device with no network or in Low Power Mode waits.
If the app says it is working locally only, your data is safe on the device and picks up
again by itself when the account is available.
Can I use it for a vegetable patch or outdoor plants?
Yes, but the app does not know what the weather is doing: for outdoor plants the due dates
are a guide, not an order. After a storm, use “Skip this round” instead of watering.
My species is not in the catalogue.
You can add the plant as a free entry and set the values by hand: it works exactly like the
others. And write me the name of the species — that is how the catalogue grows.
The whole interface follows Dynamic Type, accessibility sizes included. Wherever there is a swipe there is also a visible button, and the same action sits in the context menu and in the VoiceOver rotor. Animations turn themselves off with Reduce Motion. If you find a place that breaks those rules, write to me: it is a bug, not a decision.
